What is Confirmation?

Confirmation is not a graduation from church or a coming-of-age ceremony. It is the completion of your Christian initiation, where the gifts of the Holy Spirit are sealed upon you in a new and profound way. You receive a spiritual mark on your soul that strengthens your relationship with Jesus and empowers you to live as His witness.

Why is it Important?

  • It strengthens the grace received at Baptism
  • It gives you spiritual maturity—not by age, but by responsibility
  • It equips you to face adult challenges in faith
  • It confirms your place in the mission of the Church

What Do I Need to Know Before Being Confirmed?

It’s not about passing a test—it’s about preparing your heart. Before Confirmation, every candidate should:

  • Know who Jesus is and why they want to follow Him
  • Understand the meaning of the Creed and be able to pray it personally
  • Participate in the life of the Church through Mass and service
  • Be open to receiving God’s grace and removing spiritual obstacles (e.g., resentment, disconnection, fear)

For Parents and Sponsors

Your role is vital. This is a time to:

  • Walk with your child in faith
  • Pray together
  • Model a Catholic life rooted in the sacraments

A sponsor must:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Be a fully initiated, practicing Catholic
  • Be someone who lives their faith and can mentor the candidate spiritually
