Guide to Baptism Preparation for Infants and Adults

Sacrament of Baptism

“I have called you by name, you are mine.” — Isaiah 43:1

Baptism is the first step on a lifelong journey of faith. In this beautiful sacrament, we are welcomed into the family of God, cleansed of original sin, and marked as beloved sons and daughters of the Father. Whether you are preparing for the baptism of your child, or are an adult seeking to be baptized into the Catholic Church, we are here to walk with you.

Baptism for Infants & Young Children (under age 7)

We are filled with joy when parents choose to raise their child in the Catholic faith. Baptism is not only a family celebration—it is a moment of grace for the whole Church.

What’s Involved?

  • A preparation session for parents (and godparents, if possible)
  • A completed baptism registration form
  • Choosing at least one godparent who is a confirmed, practicing Catholic

Baptisms are typically celebrated during or after Sunday Mass at one of our parish churches. The exact schedule and location may vary depending on the season and availability.

Baptism for Children (Ages 7+) and Teens

Children age 7 and older are invited to prepare for Baptism through a more intentional process, often called the Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC). This includes:

  • Age-appropriate catechesis and prayer experiences
  • Participation in Mass and parish life
  • Family involvement throughout the journey

We will work with you to ensure your child is welcomed and well-prepared to receive the sacraments.

✝️ Baptism for Adults – RCIA

If you are an adult who has never been baptized, or if you were baptized in another Christian tradition and wish to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church, you are warmly invited to explore the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA).

This journey typically involves:

  • Weekly sessions exploring Scripture, sacraments, and Catholic teaching
  • Support from parish mentors and the RCIA team
  • A communal celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist)

Contact our parish team to find out when our next RCIA group begins.

Godparents: Spiritual Guides and Witnesses

The role of a godparent is a sacred one. A godparent must:

  • Be a practicing Catholic who has received the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. Must not be the parent of the child.
  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Be living a life of faith in harmony with the teachings of the Church

You may have one or two godparents (one male and one female). A baptized non-Catholic Christian may serve as a Christian witness alongside a Catholic godparent.
